About

Grammy-winning alto saxophonist Gary Bartz brings a quartet for an event not to be missed! This recent octogenarian’s trailblazing career spans over 60 years earning him jazz royalty status. Conservatory trained, Bartz hit the scene in the 1960’s first as a member of Charles Mingus’ Jazz Workshop and soon after as a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. He has played with Abbey Lincoln, Max Roach, McCoy Tyner, Pharoah Sanders, Miles Davis and more. Bartz also founded the pioneering NTU Troop, fusing soul, funk, African folk music, hard and post-bop and avant-garde. In 2005, Bartz won a Grammy playing on Tyner’s Illuminations...
