Saxman/multi-instrumentalist Gary Regina has been active as a sideman and bandleader in Santa Cruz since the early '80s. He first became well known as a founding member of two popular Santa Cruz world music bands—Special Fun and Worlds Collide—playing an energetic blend of cross-cultural influences. For the past fifteen years, Gary has been an avid user of looping technology (the process of layering ostinatos where one musician can sound like many), utilizing woodwinds, flutes, guitar and percussion to create ambient soundscapes for his free-spirited improvisations. The second set of this special evening will feature Gary performing in a more conventional band setting with guitarist Baird Miller, keyboardist Bill Spencer, bassist Bob Wider, drummer Brian Loftus, plus special guest vocalist Johnny Fabulous. ...
