As a respected educator, he says, "I have been part of this spread of teaching jazz for over 30 years. This new generation … are well studied and very world-oriented. They understand rhythms and harmonies from all over the planet and are changing the way modern jazz is articulated. On a more personal level, I don’t want to be stuck in a stylistic vacuum. I want to see what the young folks are doing and add that to my personal language.”
