As a founding member of the SFJAZZ Collective in 2004, alto saxophonist Miguel Zenón has become one of the most celebrated alto saxophonists and composers of his generation as well as a multiple Grammy nominee and Guggenheim and MacArthur “Genius” Fellow. Deepening his relationship with SFJAZZ as a Resident Artistic Director, Zenón presents a series of projects that showcase his ever-expanding vision as a composer inspired by West Africa and an ingenious interpreter of the folkloric and popular music of Puerto Rico. His Rhythm Collective features a brilliant cast of Puerto Rican musicians playing original pieces and Zenón’s arrangements of songs from the Caribbean lexicon.
